Ginger Mint Turmeric Tea to Heal a Cold

All natural turmeric tea with fresh ginger, lemon and mint is a soothing concoction that I cook up whenever I feel stuffy and congested. Flu season is upon us and so are the sniffles and dry scratchy throats. Taking meds for cold, flu and allergies---not my favorite remedy. I recommend natural methods and this turmeric tea infused with fresh grated ginger and mint is definitely "super effective". It unclogs the chest and gives a soothing, warm feeling the throat when drinking. You can add some honey or stevia but I prefer to just drink it plain. I use good quality mint tea bags but all the other ingredients I add to this turmeric tea are all fresh and natural. The turmeric gives it an exotic golden color and the lemon, mint and ginger give a subtle flavor resulting in a soothing concoction that tastes soooo good! Don’t take my word for it. Just try it next time you have the sniffles!

Why it works:

Turmeric is an ancient spice that is loaded with anti- inflammatory properties and antioxidants. It is considered a healing spice in many cultures and has been used widely in ancient medicine. It has a soothing effect when ingested and aides in quick healing. Raw turmeric is more potent, hence adding it to tea will help you get maximum benefits. Ginger, another strong anti-inflammatory helps stimulate perspiration, which cleanses the system and brings down the body temperature. Ginger also aids as cough suppressant. Lemon acts as an antiseptic and its anti- inflammatory qualities soothe the irritated membranes in a sore throat. Lemons are also high in vitamin C which strengthens the immune system. Mint helps to kills bacteria and viruses. The menthol in peppermint effectively thins mucus and breaks up phlegm. It also provides relief from coughs and congestion. Together all these ingredients pack a powerful punch into this healing turmeric tea.
